Have you ever looked at yourself and thought why did I take PCM in 11th and 12th. Well, dear, you did nothing wrong. I am sure there must have been reasons like “Your cousins did the same, you should do it too” or “I don’t even know what to do, so, eh… let’s do this” or for some really talented students “I am so obsessed with mechanics and blah-blah field that I want to do it”. Well, there are hundreds of other reasons. But there is one thing I want you all to know, if you took this decision of your life and are kinda cool about it, it’s great. Because my friend you should be. I am sure you have seen all those influencers on social media, who will post their life journey as “Left Engineering to travel or become an actor or a standup comedian”. But you don’t have to do that.

This blog is not for those people who want to do something crazy or out of passion or because I don’t feel like I am made for this, so I’ll just go and explore the world. This blog is for those who cannot or don’t want to take such a step. Being an engineer has those perks that a travel blogger or a standup comedian doesn’t, which is you can do everything that you want but along with a degree. Now I know how you all can say a degree doesn’t matter. But it does. For every middle-class student out there it does. And you all know it in your heart.

I am an engineering student too. I see how my other friends don’t know where the world is leading in tech. Let it be tech in medicines, agriculture, stock market, finance, entertainment, etc. When you are in this phase of life. You are gonna meet all kinds of weirdos and be like “Why didn’t I ever thought of this thing this way?”. You are a creator from any field that you are pursuing. I have this one piece of advice for you all, in your engineering life, build a startup!! Doesn’t matter if it’s successful or not, you are gonna learn necessary and fun things ten times more than any other student. Plus, It’s your baby. You take good care of it.

Now let’s talk money. Unemployment is said to be a major problem in India. But, when you live your four years of engineering life, you realize that there are a hell lot of opportunities knocking on your door. All you need is skills, and my friend, nobody is gonna give you one if you don’t have it. I see many people who have exceptional skills but they don’t know how to connect and showcase their skills. While there are many “talkers” with no skills. Always remember, if you don’t have one of them, you are gonna fail anyway. So work on your weaknesses. Nothing is that hard. When you actually have a secure job in your hands at the age of 22, that feeling is all worth it. You have the first source of income at a very young age, now you can move on to multiple other sources of income.

All that you do in your college years, you make the bestest friends, your achievements, your endeavors, all those stupid club events, bunking classes are all worth remembering for the rest of your lives. So, when a crazy punk comes to you and says that don’t become an engineer, give this good speech to them and move on. You are good. Not everyone wants to be a millionaire and it’s completely alright. After all, it’s your life. Live it your way.
